Is there anything on Velebit, apart from the mountain itself, that is as fascinating and powerful as the Premužić Trail? The most famous hiking trail in Croatia, it passes through the most beautiful parts of Northern Velebit National Park and Velebit Nature Park. It was constructed between 1930 and 1933 and named after the chief engineer Ante Premužić, who, interestingly, came from flat Slavonia. We’ll guide you along the trail, providing full guiding and logistical support. We could talk for hours about the trail and Velebit, but we’ll save that for when we’re actually on it.

Accommodation on the first day is in newly renovated shepherd’s cabins or at the Alan Mountain Lodge, while on the second day, it’s at the Čelina Hostel, located halfway between Karlobag and Baške Oštarije.

Program Description

3 Days of Hiking on Velebit
Day 1 - Zavižan

Departure from Požega is at 5:30 AM, where we drive towards Zagreb and pick up the rest of the group at Bauhaus Buzin at 7:30 AM. We continue along the highway, stopping as needed. Our first stop is Kuterevo, where we’ll visit the bear sanctuary. After the visit and a short briefing, we head to the start of our trail at Zavižan. The plan is to start hiking from Zavižan no later than 12:00 PM.
We only carry the essentials for the day’s hike, and the rest of the luggage is transported by van to Alan, our destination for the day. We’re in for a beautiful hike in the mystical ambiance of Velebit. We pass by Rosijeva Hut and through the most protected area, Hajdučki and Rožanski Kukovi. We take breaks as needed, with the planned arrival at Alan after 6-7 hours of hiking.
We’ll sleep in the renovated shepherd’s cabins or at the Alan Mountain Lodge. Don’t worry, we won’t be sleeping with livestock—these are converted former shepherd shelters. A warm and well-deserved meal awaits us here. The total distance covered is approximately 16 km.

Day 2 - View of the Islands

We hope you’ve had a good rest because today another beautiful day awaits us, mostly offering stunning views of the islands along our coast. Departure is at 9 AM, and by then, we’ll have breakfast and pack everything we need for the day. The rest of the luggage will be transported to our destination by van.
Today’s destination is the Skorpovac Shelter, which takes about the same time to reach as yesterday’s hike. We won’t be staying here overnight, but we’ll take a short break, enjoy a Velebit beer, and then continue by van for about 10 minutes to a true Lika hostel where we’ll find a comfortable bed, a shower, hot food, and time to relax.

Day 3 - Baške Oštarije

Today, we start a bit earlier than yesterday. At 8 AM, we head back to Skorpovac, where we stopped yesterday, and our final destination is Baške Oštarije, where the hostel is located, because we believe we’ll be hungry by then. Today’s trail takes us through a lot of beech forests, but we’ll also pass through one of our personal favorite parts of this trail—and all of Velebit—the Dabarski Kukovi. We’re in for another beautiful hike, just like the previous days, but today’s hike will be a bit shorter. We’ll cover approximately 5 hours of hiking today.
