Even if you don’t know a thing about mountaineering, but you would like to impress someone then Premužić’s Trail is the right place for you! Ante Premužić, a forestry engineer, has handed down something amazing and priceless. He marked the trail so that it runs through the most inaccessible parts of Velebit – Hajdučki Kukovi and Rožanski Kukovi – without difficult ascents and descents. He made Velebit and its beauties accessible to anyone. The Premužić’s trail is an engineering wonder and work of art. Once desolate part of Velebit became accessible more than seven decades ago. Today, it is called an “open view gallery” for its beauties. For your information, the formation of Velebit began 260 million years ago! Premužić’s trail belongs to a world-known Via Dinarica trail which has been voted by National Geographic the world’s destination in 2017.

Accommodation is provided in different locations in Croatia. We mostly use private guest houses or traditional mountain hut’s located outside the popular tourist areas. This will make your experience of Croatia even more complete.
Our meeting point is Gospić or Otočac. They are both small towns on the main road to the seaside, the south of Croatia. We will pick you up by our van and start our adventure on local roads at altitude up to 1600 m a. s. l. (metres above sea level), which is our start point. First we will visit a botanical garden where you can see endemic plant species that are found on Velebit only. Then we will continue to Hajdučki Kukovi and Rožanski Kukovi Strict Reserve where we will visit a speleological object – Luka’s pit (-1392 m) – one of the deepest and most famous pits in the world. We will end our day in Shepherd’s hut where we will eat, have a shower and sleep.
After spending a night in Shepherd’s hut, we eagerly continue our 3-day adventure. This area is covered in forests, but it is as beautiful as parts we’ve seen so far. We will enjoy a breathtaking view of the sea and islands all the way. In the late afternoon we will come to a climbers’ hut where we will have a rest, have something to eat and drink.
As they say: “The early bird catches the worm” – today, we will catch even more. An amazing day, as well as stunning views are waiting for us.
